Great resource for wildflowers of the Western (and Rolling) Plains

Zoe Kirkpatrick’s Wildflowers of the Western Plains is a well done picture guide to many of the wildflowers that will be found in our area.  Although the Rolling Plains is on the southeastern fringe of the Western Plains proper I think this book will still be very useful.  My older copy was printed by the University of Texas Press but a quick Google search shows that it’s now available from the University of Nebraska Press.

For my identifications I’ll refer to books like this but also will be using more technical “keys” for precise identification down to the species level.  However, you can go a long way with books like the one above and they are a great way to begin appreciating the diversity of the plant world that is found on Texas’ Rolling Plains.
